The sculpting of the 'Titanic Statue' designed by Mrs Harry Payne Whitney and Mr John Horrigan, representing the 'last inspiration of a departing soul.' The statue was carved from red granite and erected in Potomac Park, Washington. On her maiden voyage across the Atlantic, the Titanic struck an iceberg on 15th April 1912 and sank with the loss of 1503 lives.
