Description | Searchlights looking for Zeppelins over London, WW1 |
Details |
Searchlights throwing up shafts of light over the London skyline in September 1914, on the look out for German Zeppelin aircraft. The Tatler comments that, 'What with darkened streets, public-houses closed at eleven o'clock, soldiers everywhere, and searchlights flashing in all directions, London presents at the moment an aspect which is enough to startle the oldest inhabitant and to bring before us in some small measure the reality of war.'
