Picture No 10238839
Date circa 1880
Description Sedgemoor, Somerset
Details

Sedgemoor, Somerset -- this tranquil scene was, alas, the site of a bloody battle on 6 July 1685, when the rebellious Duke of Monmouth was defeated by the King's forces led by the Earl of Feversham. The rebels were defeated and the rebellion was ended. law and order restored, and everyone except Monmouth lived happily ever after.
