Scene at the Senghenydd Colliery Disaster, near Caerphilly, Glamorgan, South Wales. There were 439 miners killed in total, making this the worst mining accident in the UK. Here members of the rescue party are pictured, assisted in the arrangement of their safety helmets before a descent into the burning pit.
