Glass and Elliott in East Greenwich, loaded onto smaller cargo ships, the 'Amethyst' and the 'Iris' and then onto the 'Great Eastern' where it was stored in huge coils. The 1865 expedition to lay the transatlantic cable ended in failure due to bad weather but was successfully completed the following year.
