On the rifle ranges of Bisley and elsewhere, a shot which misses the target is signalled by the waving of a flag to and fro above the trench, in which the market sits. Illustration by Alfred Leete, better known as the artist behind the famous, Kitchener, 'Your Country Needs You' London Opinion cover and subsequent poster.
