Sir Henry Morton Stanley (1841 - 1904) (centre with walking stick), the Anglo-American journalist and explorer, and his companions leaving a dense forest, Central Africa. The original caption read: ''After one hundred and sixty days' continuous gloom, we saw the light of broad day shining all around us, and making all things beautiful...The men literally yelled and leaped for joy, and raced over the ground with their burdens.' - Extract from one of Mr. Stanley's letters'.
