Field Marshal Sir John French(1852-1925), commander of the British army in France, arriving at the Ministry of War, Paris, shortly after war was declared in August 1914. He recieved a magnificent reception, and was received by President Poincare, later conferencing with M. Messimy, the French Minister for War.
