Details

General Sir Julian Byng, 1st Viscount Byng of Vimy (1862 - 1935), commanded the British Third Army at the Battle of Cambrai in November to December 1917, the first to use surprise tank attacks; honoured by having his temporary rank of general made permanent; served as Governor General of Canada in the 1920s.
