A cheerful crowd disporting on the ice in front of Buckingham Palace. During one of the coldest winters experienced by Britain, nearly all London lakes were available for skaters, with big crowds turning out on the Serpentine, on the Round Pond, Kensington Gardens, and in Battersea Park.
