With his portrait of cricketer, Jack Hobbs (see picture 11806473 for actual painting), the artist W. Smithson Broadhead who had been specially commissioned by the Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic News to paint the batsman. In the same volume is another portrait of horseracing champion, Steve Donoghue.
