Details |
Group of well-known people at the Cataract Hotel in Aswan, near the huge dam. Pictured are Sir Oliver Duncan (in white hat), Delia de Bagno, the Marquess of Huntly, Lady Joan Villiers, Mrs Kenneth Richards, Mr George Whigham (father of Miss Margaret Whigham), Mr Duncan Mackinnon with his new wife, Lady Duncan, Mrs George Whigham, Mr Bradley Campbell, the Marchioness of Huntly, the Hon. Miss Eileen Brougham and Miss Margaret Whigham. Margaret had got engaged to the Earl of Warwick during this holiday, when the pair got together in Cairo, leading to a rush of interest in the press at home. She would later break off the engagement just weeks before the wedding and marry Charles Sweeny the following year. Her second husband was the Duke of Argyll and their divorce case scandalised the country in 1963.
