Description Society ladies as programme sellers at concert, WW1
Details

A group of well known society ladies, dubbed by The Tatler, 'Some Kindly "Souls"' (alluding to their heritage as children or relations of the group of Edwardian intellectuals known as the Souls). They are pictured acting as programme-sellers at a concert at Grosvenor House in aid of the Star and Garter Fund, which aimed to establish a hospital in Richmond for totally disabled soldiers and sailors at the former Star and Garter Hotel. The building was demolished in 1919. Pictured from left to right are Lady Mainwaring, Miss Nancy Cunard, Miss Bettine Stuart-Wortley and Lady Diana Manners. At the back are Miss Warrender, Miss Violet Warrender and Lady Forbes-Robertson. Among the performers at this particular concert were Lady Churston (Denise Orme), Mlle. Dorziat, Miss Mabel Russell, Miss Madge Titheridge, Miss Lottie Venne, Lady Maud Warrender and Mr Nelson Keys.
