Soldier from the Philippine Islands serving in the Abraham Lincoln Battalion of the International Brigade, during the Spanish Civil War. This soldier is shown using a periscope to view the landscape towards the enemy, Nationalist, positions. The International Brigade was a volunteer force which supported the Republican Government during the Spanish Civil War. Volunteers came from all over Europe and North America; the Abraham Lincoln Battalion had men from Cuba, Mexico, the Philippines, Canada and the USA.
