A wounded British soldier having his artificial leg adjusted following his first trial-walk with it at Queen Mary's Convalescent Auxiliary Hospital in Roehampton. The hospital specialised in fitting artificial limbs to wounded British soldiers. It is estimated that there were around 250,000 British amputees and one million soldiers altogether by the end of World War I.
