Soldiers of D'Annunzio in a street in the city of Fiume, a seaport in the Free State of Fiume (now Rijeka, Croatia). Gabriele D'Annunzio took charge of the city in September 1919, and this event marked the first anniversary of his arrival. The Latin motto on the flag, Quis Contra Nos, asks Who Is Against Us?
