Front cover illustration by Fortunino Matania showing a group of Allied soldiers in Macedonai surveying a monument bearing an inscription in Bulgarian placed by General Mackensen beside a road built by him - "the 9th Company of the 10th Regiment of Rhodope, 8th Division of the Southern Army of General Mackensen.' The lower inscription was added by the French soldiers of General Sarrail when Allied troops captured the ground on which the monument stands in 1916 - 'Yes, but Sarrail upset it.'
