Description | Sphere cover - British attack German trench by Matania |
Details |
British infantry attacking a German trench in France at the point of the bayonet. The Sphere caption reads, 'According to the account of a soldier who took part in the great attack on the German positions, it rained the whole day. The clouds hung very low, grey, and misty all the time. Hundreds of prisoners were taken. They were so numerous that the communication trenches were blocked for a long time. There were a considerable number of old men and young boys among them, and altogether they were a very mixed lot. Some were hardly able to walk, they were so crippled with rheumatism and swollen feet.'
