The call to arms summoned a number of prominent sports personalities to the front. Among them are Captain McCalmont, the owner of The Tetrarch, Captain Tomkinson, of polo fame, and Captain Gibbon, the Cambridge racing coach who also won a jumping prize for officers at the International Horse Show.
