Alexander Spotswood leads the Knights of the Golden Horseshoe Expedition across Virginia, westward across the Blue Ridge Mountains. Spotswood sits on a horse as the rest of the party either catches up from behind or moves on ahead of the trail. By a stream a couple of dogs drink while an English man turn towards a Meherrin man sat down. Several men from the Meherrin tribe accompanied Spotswood on this expedition.
