Engraving showing the iron steamship 'Manilla' on fire in the harbour at Balaklava during the Crimean War, 1855. The harbour at Balaklava was of huge strategic importance during the Crimean War. By June 1855 the Allied forces had succeeded in taking the harbour and the heights behind from the Russian army.
