The P.&O. steamship 'Rome' lying in the Royal Albert Docks, with its lascar crew manning the yards, 1886. The crews of the SS 'Chusan' and 'Paramatta' were also manning their yards (in the background), in honour of the arrival of the 'Rome' with a large number of Colonial and Indian visitors on board her. At right can be seen the deck and funnel of a small paddle-steamer, come to meet the 'Rome' and its passengers.
