Date 1893
Description SS 'Umbria', 1893.
Details

Cunard steamship 'Umbria'. During a crossing from Queenstown to New York in December 1892, the 'Umbria's' propeller shaft broke and she was disabled, turning a routine trip of a week into an adventure of 13 days. The ship's engineer had to fashion a makeshift propellor shaft, which took several days, as the ship drifted in the Atlantic.
