Description St Brice's Day Massacre
Details

Concerned that Scandinavians resident in England were giving support to Viking raiders, King Aethelred the Unready gave orders that on St Brice's Day, 1002, all Danish people in England should be killed. Here, Gunhilde (sister of King Sweyn of Denmark) and her child are brutally murdered by the Saxons. Her husband, Pallig Tokeson, was also killed that day.
