An aerial view of the stadium built for the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. Originally with a capacity of 32,000, the stadium was rebuilt to accomodate 42,000. Behind that is the marathon tower, designed so that the whole of the marathon race could be followed. A plume of smoke could be seen emitting from the tower during the fortnight of the Games.
