Date 1906
Description Strap-hangers
Details

Picture by Sidney Paget illustrating, 'the new way of travelling against which railway passengers revolt'. When straps were added to underground railway carriages in the early 1900s, there was an outcry among travellers. Several ILN papers echoed public feeling and felt that the idea of commuters having to stand for such distances was unfair.
