Details |
Sugar cane is fed into grooved iron rollers that crush the cane, producing cane juice. The juice runs down the grooves into a cistern, from where it travels via a pipe to the boiling-house. The waste material produced, known as megass, is collected and dried, ultimately to be used as fuel for the furnaces of the boiling-house and still.
