Sister E. de Merrall, a Danish lady married to an English officer, pictured giving Swedish treatment to wounded Canadian soldiers at the Duchess of Connaught's hospital at Cliveden during the First World War. She gave up her own hospital in Canada to travel to England and is pictured here instructing a patient in rowing exercise to strengthen the arms.
