Front cover of The Tatler featuring a portrait of Princess Mary (later Countess of Harewood), daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, with news of her appeal to provide a Christmas gift to every serviceman and woman during the first winter of World War One. The brass tin was embossed with his portrait and contained cigarettes and tobacco, or sweets for non-smokers, chocolate for nurses and sweets and spices for Indian troops.
