Painting of the Cenotaph, a temporary structure of timber and plaster in Whitehall, London, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens as a memorial to the fallen of the First World War for the Peace Day celebrations in July 1919. The success of the structure meant it was rebuilt in Portland Stone and has remained the focus of Remembrance Day services since 1920.
