Description Thames watermen at work during Swan Upping
Details

Thames watermen at work during Swan Upping, when cygnets need to be rounded up on the Upper Thames River and distinguishing marks cut on their bills, to show that they are the property of the Crown and the Dyers' and Vintners' Companies of the City of London. Needless to say, it is difficult and often rather wet work.
