Date 1843
Description The aftermath of fire at Luton Hoo.
Details

Luton Hoo, which straddles the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire borders between the towns of Harpenden and Luton. In 1843 a devastating fire occurred and much of the house and its contents were destroyed. This engraving shows the aftermath (the scene the following morning) of the conflagration. Following the fire the house remained a burnt shell until the estate was sold in 1848.
