A planter's residence on the Cumbee River, South Carolina representing an idyllic picture of the black slaves' existence. It shows a black nanny looking after several white children, with her own black son playing alongside. The white son is in Confederate uniform. A well-dressed elderly black man is carving a small piece of wood.
