Page from The Illustrated London News reporting on the case of General Dyer Considered "the Butcher of Amritsar" who was responsible for ordering British troops to fire on a peaceful demonstration of unarmed civilians at Jallianwall Bagh, Amritsar. Dyer was removed from duty; he was criticised both in Britain and India, but he became a celebrated hero among people with connections to the British Raj. Pictured figures involved in the debate are the Secretary of State for India, Edwin Montagu, Lord Chelmsford, Viceroy of India, Sir Michael O'Dwyer, Lieutenant-Governor of the Punjab and Lord Hunter, chairman of the committee appointed to investigate the incident.
