Description | The Apothecary's Shop by Willem Van Mieris |
Details |
An apothecary at work in his shop, with the accoutrements of his trade about him. Behind him on shelves are blue and white Delft ware drug and syrup jars and above, a wrought iron bracket from which hang polished scales. Framing the shop interior are sponges and poppy heads, both symbols of the apothecary's trade. Willem van Mieris (1662-1747) specialised in painting shop scenes.
