The Atlantic Telegraph Expedition: on board the Great Eastern, the crew prepares for the final attempt to grapple the lost telegraph cable which had snapped at the beginning of August. The operation fails and the ship returns to England to make a new successful attempt at laying the telegraph cable across the Atlantic the following year.
