Description | The Battle of Balaklava, Crimean War 1854 |
Details |
Romanticised but famous engraving by Sir John Gilbert of the Battle of Balalava during the Crimean War. This battle included the ill-fated charge of the Light Brigade, where British forces under Lord Cardigan were decimated. Instead of taking advantage of the inroads made by Scarlett's Heavy Brigade, Cardigan sat watching, only to later charge an unassailable Russian position.
