The Benin expedition- in quest of water: 'On the morning after the occupation of Benin three hundred water-carriers, with the seamen and marines of the 'Theseus' and two companies of Houssas, went in search of water. After descending a gorge with banks two hundred feet high, they reached the Ikpobar Creek'.
