The boat question: a suggested method of launching ships' boats (ie lifeboats) with long davits. The longer davit would launch the boat well clear of the ship's side, especially important is the ship is heeling over. The photograph below shows a power-driven lifeboat with a covered-in section and a wireless attachment on the Aquitania.
