The pleasure gardens of the Bois de Boulogne, Paris, turned into a pasture for sheep and cows, 1870. As the Prussian Army advanced towards Paris the prospect of a siege of Paris became evident and with this in mind, the Bois de Boulogne was converted to agricultural use. The Siege of Paris began on 19th September 1870 and lasted four months.
