Details

Crimean War. Engraving of a cavalry officer of the Light Brigade on his charger, coming through 'the Valley of Death' that was the Battle of Balaklava, 1855. This image was published on the twentieth anniversary of the battle, entitled 'Came through the Jaws of Death; Back from the Mouth of Hell', a reference to the popular poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson.
