British army officers in front of the tablet that was erected to commemorate the occupation of Beyrout(Beirut) and Tripoli by the 21st Army Corps. The solid rock on to which this tablet was fixed carried many other ancient inscriptions, the most recent before this inscription being one by Napoleon III in 1860. (L-R) Major Gwatkin, Lieutenant Blunt(at the back), Brigadier-General Simpson-Baiklie, Lieutenant E.F Bulfin, Lieutenant -General Sir E.S Bulfin and Captain R.W Bankes.
