The Gold State coach, weighing 4 tonnes, which first appeared on the streets of London at an opening of Parliament by George III has been used at every Royal coronation since that of George IV. It was designed by Sir William Chambers and many craftsmen collaborated on the work at a total cost of £7587. The allegorical panels are painted by artist Cipriani.
