Details

The death of Darius III, last king of the Achaemenid Empire of Persia. Betrayed by Bessus, Darius lies dying on a wagon, pulled by frightened, unguided mules. He reaches out to clasp the hand of Polystratus, who has discovered him far from the road, by a valley pool.
