Description The Easington Colliery mining disaster
Details

A violent underground explosion in the early hours of 29th May, caused the National Coal Board's worst mine disaster since the nationalisation of coal. In all, eighty miners who had been working in the mine were killed, and one rescue worker lost his life as well.
