As part of their series on the education of British Youth, the Illustrated London News ran a feature on Stonyhurst College, Lancashire. Stonyhurst was founded in Lancashire 1794 as a Roman Catholic boys' school in the Jesuit tradition.Clockwise from top left: The boys' refrectory, the dissection of a rabbit lead by Mr. C.N Watson in the zoology laboratory,cadets examining a map with A. Chessells,senior under officer. Archery, the irish sport of shinty(similar to hurling) and fishing are all activities enjoyed the pupils.
