Description | The Fan by Raphael Kirchner |
Details |
Black and white version of The Fan by Raphael Kirchner, one of a series of popular 'Kirchner Girls' 'pin-ups' he produced during the First World War. The illustration accompanies a short article in the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News entitled 'The Cult of Kirchner'. It praises Kirchner's illustrations and says, 'There is no doubt the fighting forces have taken the "Girl" to their hearts, for prints of her are to be found in thousands pinned on to the walls of dug-outs in many a "far-flung battle line," and the personality of the demure and bewitching maiden is such that she is just as popular with the women as with the men.'
