Engraving showing the main room of the Female Emigrant's Home, Hatton Garden, London, 1853. A fund was set up in 1849 to send distressed needlewomen to Australia, where they could earn far more money and live a healthier life. This engraving shows the headquarters of the organisation, where the women live before embarcation.
