Two views of the battle of Shimonoseki, where British, French, American and Dutch forces fought against the Japanese for control of the Shimonoseki straits, off the coast of Japan. The first image shows action on 5th September 1864, and the lower one the red battery opening fire on the corvettes on September 6th.
