The German fighter plane, the D III Albatros, which carried a 175 hp Mercedes engine pictured diving at speed towards a British plane below. The aircraft was able to climb to great heights and then descend at speed on to any pilot flying at a lower altitude. It was fitted with two machine guns, one firing forward through the propellor.
